I'm going to tear down my bike next weekend and need to get an idea of how to keep it up while I take it apart. Motorcycle jacks aren't too expensive, but I don't know if I'll get enough use out of it to make the investment. Using the center stand will be fine until I unbolt the front end. Any ideas?

I don't know what the weight rating on a 5 gallon bucket is, they always worked with my dirtbikes but I don't thing the ol' bucket will cut it this time.

I have my GS750 up on the center stand and 2 automotive jack stands under the front part of the frame..

You can get a little extra height by putting the center stand down on a 2x4

I've also jacked up my XS-400 with 2 standard floor jacks..

I slid one of the jack handles through the frame and used it as a lift bar with a jack on each end..

when I had the rear up and the handle resting on jack stands I jacked up the front of the bike

I like the ceiling straps Smile

Thanks guys. I think I'll give the milk crate a try, but that gives me some ideas for modifying a standard floor jack.

Concrete block. Steal from neighbor's woodpile and paint it so he won't recognize it.

I got one of those motorcycle jack's from Harbor Freight. Work's good, well worth the $80.

Good post.I'll use roar and langs ideas.I need to get 3 bikes up and able to roll around the garage.I'll jack it w/ ceiling staps and set it down on something like lang built but high enough to lift both wheels.Space is a problem and this will help.

Center stand will work with the forks off. It will automatically transfer the weight of the bike to the rear tire when you remove the forks.
