Anybody know what the laws are about mounting a plate vertically?
Is that a state by state thing?
Thanks

grinder,

Well, if you have to ask, you're not ready to do it!! Shoot first, ask questions later.

State by state. I can tell you from personal experience from a few times being pulled over that vertical is illegal in Iowa.

Florida also, it is a $1,100 fine the first time. It is double the second and on the third it is $5,000 plus you lose your motorcycle endorsement for 10 years.

Illinois I believe is no, but I do on mine, I reckon it depends on the area and how tough the cops are, I rarely go that far and ive sat while on the bike and shot the s*** with the local pd.

The Florida law was rescinded in July (I believe).

After a long search it appears that vertical is ilegal here in wisconsin, but I've seen plates mounted that way. strangely though it looks like you don't need turn signals. I think like jeepurz said it's all about the cops in the area. I asked one the other day and he didn't know, so they might bust you for it if you get pulled over for something else and start looking your bike over.

Here in Maryland all I could find was license plate must be "Securely mounted"... I'm guessing that upside down might be ok here... as long as it's bolted on...
