The bottom of my bike seat has a few spots of rust that are very deep. The rust flakes off all over the bike. How should I get rid of the rust [steps and products] and what paint do you suggest for repainting it?

Thank you very much. I plan to do it by hand.

A circular stiff wire brush on a drill does wonders. They're about $5 at Harbor Freight. They blast away paint and rust down to bare steel in no time flat. (And they don't go through the steel).

There's a paint that I haven't used that I probably will sooner or later. I think it's by Duplicolor (common in auto parts stores) and it's for painting wheels. I think it would be very durable. I'd follow their recommendations for a primer. BTW the wire brush I was talking about is like the one below. Make sure it's coarse, not fine.

I just painted my gas tank, with rustolium (not the spray paint) and it worked out great. It was extremely durable and very cheap. Just thin it out with mineral spirits and then apply it with a paint sprayer or brush it on. Good luck.
