I know I have posted this question before but hopefully maybe someone has the answer for me now. I am getting an oil leak from the cam shaft seal. I have replaced them twice but with the same out come. Both sides leak. What am I doing wrong? Any advice as to fixing them? Please help! Its more annoying then anything, but it does dirty up the motor and side covers over a good ride.
THANKS!!!!

Hey Potts, make sure them bearings are in toward the cam center as far as they can go. Just mentioning from experience, Ha!

I had a leak from the same place.
When I had the head off to change the front cam guide and chain, I used the o-rings between the head and housings instead of the gaskets.
On mine it looked like the seals just barely went onto the cam shaft. With the o-rings they go on a bit farther, no leaks so far.

Thanks for the replys guys, alright.
Xsjohn, I read your post about the fork spring, but I dont have any extra to use. Do you know of anything else that would do the trick?
5 twins, I didnt use Scotchbrite, but I used 2000 grit paper to polish the area, I will use scotchbrite next time I have the covers off.
xsleo, I use both an o ring and a seal, I will try using just an o ring and see what happens.
nj, I do have the bearings in as far as they will go, that was one thing I made sure of when I put the motor back together.
Thanks for the input guys!

next time it's apart, mic the shaft ends in several spots to make sure they're not out of round. also check for axial play in the cam shaft beaings.

Do you know the history of the engine......wonder if the head and top cap are mismatched ...like they sell them seperated on ebay.............. as for seal springs.....would have to look around some shops maybe.......it is a very weak spring in those seals I found....

With just the o-ring the housing goes right up to the head, the gasket keeps it back the thickness of the gasket. It seemed to help on mine.
