Does anyone remember what brand and model style tire came brand new on a 75 XS? My cheepo Cheng Sheins are wearing out quickly, and although I like the tread pattern due to the fact they look vintage, I want something that I can get a better ride and more mileage out of....I'm thinking I may want to put the style of tire that came on the early 70's Bonneville..I like the knobby look..... any help would be appreciated as usual....thanks

My 75 has what I believe to be the original tires on her. They're Yokahoma's. The front is a Y-982 and the rear is a Y-985, but I don't think they're probably made anymore.

I picked up a brand new Avon Road Runner Rear tire yesterday for 15 bucks that looks like the OEM tread pattern to some extent. I understand that Dunlap is dropping several of their older tire styles, so you might want to check on those 571s and see if they are headed for the axe. I prefer Cheng Shin Barracuda tires, but they are also being dropped if they haven't already. If you find some, I suggest you grab em quick like.

Butch.

Hey Roar, do you have the original air for them too? Smile

Someone has to say it... please change them, they are well past their 'best before' date, not likely to have much grip in them. Avoid wet conditions for sure.

I have some very sticky Pirelli Speed Demon's on my '79 SF.

Couldn't be happier.

I'm in total agreement with you Jeff. Eyeballing the safety master and speed master avons, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. After I finished rebuilding her I was just so happy to ride that the tires became a back burner issue. No excuse, but the new ones should get ordered the top of next month. Just in time for some winter riding.

Peace out,
Roar
