im working on a soft tail bobber. and i pulled the stock battery box out, and will be modding the frame a bit. now i realized i have no space for a stock battery. i have no idea where to put a battery now, aside from welding a bracket and mounting it to the side of the damned bike!

so, what is the smallest battery i can put on the bike and still get proper function with the pamco ignition?

BiffTirkle

Well, the PAMCO will work with any size battery. The choice of battery size starts with whether or not you are going to use the electric start. If so, then the stock size battery is the smallest that will work efficiently with the starter motor.

If kick start only, then probably no smaller than half the amp hour (AH) capacity of the stock battery, or about 6 or 7 AH.

thanks! i have no idea what im going to do then. id rather kick start the bike. so chances are ill use kick start. ive already got the pamco kit, and ive got a boyer kit too. two projects, neither complete! ha. well, now ive got to figure out where to put the damned battery. i dont like to cut my options if i decide one day to use electric start. so time to decide! thanks again!

What kind of charging system do you have?? You might want to change to a pma maybe sell the boyer and get another pamco take left over cash and put towards a different charging system, then you wont need a battery at all just a capaciter.Do you have a pic of your project? I'm doing a softail bobber and have found plenty of room for the battery. Did you extend the swingarm on the softail??if you extend the swingarm 3 or 4 inches there's plenty of room plus the bike will flow (way better lines).

ive got a link to one of my builds, i dont have it now. but its on the "did you say bob? no bobber" forum. under my name. says updates on my build finally. or something like that. and i have considered using 2 pamco ignitions and selling the boyer. but i dont want to use just caps. i have a stock charging system. who knows. right now im focusing my engergies on a second baby. and building a powder coating oven.

btw my second project is a softtail bobber. with a 4" extended swingarm.

biff go to yuasa batteries site and look for the smallest 14 amp battery you can find. If you can find a 16 amp the same size buy it. But 14 is the smallest that will work with electric start.
