Could make one of RG's with some 90* fittings and a yard stick as a backing & make a fully pro version for probably an extra $1.75

I think you'll find that the simple "U-tube manometer" is easier to use and more accurate.

I've read a few threads about this but havent been able to find a detailed description of it. I have a 79 with the aftermarket on off res petcocks from mikes, will it still work??

The ends of the plastic tubing just plug into the barbs that are on the carb intakes. If you don't have barbs on the intakes, then your carbs likely have a screw that is removeable to give access to the intake vacuum. You would have to make an adapter to screw into the threaded port in order to attach the plastic tubing i.e. a bolt with a hole drilled through it.
I presently use the barbs on my 78SE, but years ago when I had an XS500C, I used bolts with a hole drilled through them.
