Hi All, sure these hardtails have been posted to death so one more won't kill us Laughing was going to go softail but what fun is that, no sore ass, kidneys not getting punched, back feeling ok, NO THANKS! I'll just have to suck up the pain a little longer. First thing I did is make a little jig (do a little dance get down tonight) and that will help keep me on the level. Made it out of a steel pallet that I got from a local car wash when they got new machine so it was free Very Happy I have seen it done with no jig at all but it makes things easier. Once on the jig it's time to get rid of the dead weight....

with the frame in wait it's time to cut and bend some tube (not pipe!) I made this out of .120wall dom tubing. Tube is structural and pipe is for transfer of fluid and gas, so NO pipe! You may be tempted to use pipe because of cost and availability, don’t.

When making a hardtail I like to make a template and lay down the top rails on that and square it all off for tacking in place, but I forgot to show bending and notching procedure…

Hey there pal lookin good. But with the ability to jig and since you have a tubing notcher, and obviously a pretty high skill level, why not just make a whole frame?

now that is a good question! I don't know Laughing realy I do know on this build but besides the needed vin#'s on the neck that is a very good question! This bike was to be a soft tail so I modified the back part of the bike for that purpose but just could not get into the build, so I had to scrap it and start again. I had raked the neck also to 42deg and would have been easier to do from scratch then on a stock frame. So yes I have made more work for myself this time around. I have found over the years bikes build themselves, we have ideas and directions for our builds but the bike always has it's own and we must addapt as we go and just tell everyone "I ment to do that" LOL.... and as far as my skill level goes you might be giving me a little more credit then I deserve but thank you for thinking so Smile nice to meet you Bryant even if it is only online.

No, there are a lot of very good shops making hardtails for these bikes so no need for another frame builder, besides I like making pipes a lot more then frames Very Happy Ardcore, Rich Ford from G+L, TC bros and Dave the Tigman just to name a few (hi guys Very Happy ) but thanks for the interest "61"

Yes I am Very Happy but if your head is full of brains instead of rocks like mine you might want to try a bender, I have a rotary draw bender but even the cheap bottle jack style can do this as the bends are not very tight. You can get one of those bottle benders for under $200 on ebay I think, a rotary will cost a grand to get going with a stand and degree wheel and such. Dyes are also pricey at a few hundred a set and go up in price acording to size. You need a die set for each size tube or pipe (pipe have different dye's then tube) all this can get pricey fast.

looking foward to seeing what you come up with though.

This bike is 2" shorter then stock! most go the other way, longer, but I want the wheels, tires and motor to look oversized so I will make the frame small for the illusion. Also like I said earlier the neck is raked to 42deg.
