Being in the upside down part of the world has advantages........always find money on the ground.....bl**dy stuff won't stay in our pockets Laughing , Geoff's good. He rebuilds bikes for people on request, and sells parts, some parts he won't split...........worth getting in contact...........Never bought of him But had a bit of contact and he is a genuine bloke

Does Geoff Bamford sell parts or just collect them? I see he's down there on the upside-down part of the world, maybe you have had some dealings with him?

The grab bar -- Are there other years that are interchangeable?

If so, which years?

How about shooting me the dimension between the rear grab bar fender mount and the center of the shock stay?

Thanks again skull, I'll shoot him an email tonight so that he gets it 12 hours before I sent it. Laughing

I can't wait to see what the shipping charges will be, we don't find money on the ground here, it all grows on trees. If you don't believe me just ask our President.

The fender mount that I need is part #256-21645-01-00 and was only interchangable for 3 years, '71 '72 and '73, after that the entire rear fender mounting system was changed along with the frame.

A little progress this week with the TX650. An order came in from Mikes with the fork tubes, seals and neck bearings. Got the front end mounted including some NOS fork ears from ebay. The air box side covers installed, also NOS from ebay, and the original rear fender. Starting to look like something now, but still a long way to go. Lower fork tubes and engine side covers still need to be polished, wheels cleaned up and mounted, then on to the handle bars and controls. The original switches are pretty corroded so I'll probably just clean them up and polish them. I found a rebuild kit for the original master cylinder but it costs just as much as a new M/C so I'll most likey get a chrome aftermarket unit. Then rebuild the caliper, add new stainless braided hoses and tackle the wiring.
I bought a NOS chrome headlight bucket but I'm still looking for a good looking blue one if anybody has it. Also in need of the rear grab bar, a clean '73 front fender and a good '73 seat pan to recover. I plan to use a Mikes original replacement exhaust system, so if anyone has put one on their bike please let me know how you like it.
Won't be long now, hopefully I'll have it on the road just in time to put it up for the winter.

If anybody has the parts I need laying around please contact me.

Also, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

IAmGrowler Look in the vault under "Manual -- Parts list" ......Biker.net link then search under year and model, Go through the years and that will give you what year = what grab rail..Can't help with dimensions

Man, that's really looking great! I might have missed it... where did you end up scoring the tank and side covers?

Nice work! Wish I had your skills and knowledge on this! And you seem to move so fast!

Thanks TC:
y skills are questionable, my knowlege is limited, and the speed is governed soley by funds (or lack of) and the availability of parts.

The side covers and fork ears are NOS ebay finds. The tank was also purchased from ebay basically as a spare primarily for the petcocks and cap/lock. It's kind of a beater but will work until your tank gets here.

Do you still have the original seat from your bike? Want to sell it?

Only if he uses repulican parts Laughing

There is still hope, I talked him into putting an XS1100 front end on it and he did. I think he's starting to finally come around.

We need to put something in the White House that makes a difference. A pelican would be far better than a vulture. Or maybe even a trucker!!! Laughing Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes

The NOS chrome headlight bucket arrived yesterday and was installed mock up style without the turn signal mounts. Not sure if I really like it yet on this bike, it's going to have to grow on me. If I can still find a blue one this bucket will be put on my daily rider.

A NOS rear fender grab bar was located and is on the way.

I'm still looking for a nice tank

Anybody have a nice XS1-2 TX650 chain guard they can part with? (part #256-22311-00-93)

Unless the photos are concealing something, I still don't see what's wrong with that tank. Mine's very nice, but not perfect.

I think he is a bit greedy as his postage rate to Aus is about $40.00 more than cost, his feedback is good though

TC & OBN:
There are some dents that can taken out with the PDR method but one of them has a bad scratch thru it that will need to be touched up. Not to mention that fact that as with most all of the '73 tanks this one developed a leak at the seam above the rear mount, was brazed as a repair and it burned up the paint in an area large enough not to be hidden by the front of the seat.

Repainting it is almost entirely out of the question. An email that I recieved from Cycle Color today quoted $586.00 for the few pints of paint necessary to re-shoot all of the sheet metal, most of which I have already replaced with NOS pieces.

You guys just HAD to make me post the ugly pics didn't you?
Yea yea, I know, I'm too damn picky. Confused

Oh, I see what you mean now.

That's a steep estimate. Is that just for materials, or labor?

Know what? If you weren't 100 percent set on being really concourse, you could mask off the brazed area symmetrically, spray bomb a close base coat on there, and protect it with an aftermarket overlay. Also, if you are not hellbent on a stock seat (I never had the original, by the way), the Mike's cafe seat that I have on my bike seems to cover the area of the braze.
