Hey everyone, new to the site/bikes/starters...
So picked up a 79 650 with an 81 engine in it about a week ago. Bike is running good but at the moment the electric starter isnt hooked up. The previous owner had torn the bike down to very minimum wiring and therefore the starter was left out of the equation.

This is probably a dumb question but I need to know how to wire the starter up. I picked up a new solenoid and tried wiring like the picture below. When the button was pressed I didnt get any response, and when the two main points were bridged the bike didnt seem to have enough juice to turn the engine over. My question is do I need to add a coil in the mix? How would I wire that? I am new to this so any help would be awesome.

The switch usually complete's the circut to ground.Yuo have no power to the solonoid signal.Go back tothe electrical section & look up wiring harnesses. Plenty in there.
