I reckon. Just cap off your intake where the vaccum hose was supposed to go. Or get a different intake?

Yeah just cap em with rubber caps- done. I'd go with MikesXS non-vac petcock and run just one- ~$70 is alot for 2 petcocks...

The newer XS'S (80 & up) have only one petcock, the one from Mike's has a provision for two line's to operate both carb's. The BS34 carb's have a common fuel connection between the carb's, & the BS38's don't, I don't think you can join them like the 34's.you'll still have to make up some sort of block off plate for the side your not going to use, preferabley the right side get's blocked off.I changed mine because I did not trust the shut-off to work properly, & the price of part's to rebuild them isn't too far from the new unit,& I've got a valve I know shut's the fuel off. :)Yes, one will be sufficeint.

The BS38 carbs on my 78SE do have a fuel line joining the 2 carbs. I changed over from vacuum petcocks to the manual petcocks. I just don't trust a petcock that has no "Off" position. So, while I have 2 petcocks, my bike would run fine on 1 petcock.
Because of the shape of the back end of the tank ( 2 separate chambers), 1 petcock operation might not be able to access the fuel in the other half, when levels get low.

All years have fuel linked between the carbs. Later one petcock models have a tee fitting between the carbs.
