Hey guys. I new here. I really want a 650... Well I really want one for my wife that is. This will be her learner bike. I am planning on buying one and "modifying" it to fit her a little better. I figure if she is going to learn to ride, she should do it in style! So, any of you guys live in west texas got one you want to get rid of?

Hi Batman,
Great idea! An XS is a good bike for a woman--powerful enough to run down a freeway all day, but light and easy to control. (Plus if you have kids, a sidecar is a great option!)
I'm about as far as you can get from Texas, but I bet Craigslist lists something around your area. I found one in Seattle, so I'd have a three-wheel rig and a two-wheel bike, for $350.00. Not bad!
Good luck with your search, and welcome!

If Bullard TX is Texas then there is a guy on eBay selling one now. I posted under a place to clean out your garage on the 16th. Have a look.

Another suggestion is an xs400 for her first bike. I have seen them even cheaper than a 650 on E-bay and craigslist.................BG

650skull I am not sure I understand your post?
I found a 79 xs400 that we are going to go look at this weekend. It runs and he only wants $375 for it. He sent me some pics and it is in pretty good shape. We are probably going to get it unless there is some major problem with it.

This made me chuckle... I think he's confused about the phrase "got on". It has a special meaning for me because I mentor young people on the web, many of whom are British. The first time one of them used that phrase with me, I recall thinking, "Hmmm?!" But then after I learned a bit of their vernacular, I was fine! In fact, I have picked up a lot of it. And I take it that many NZ/Aussie expressions are not too different from those of British colloquial English.
Bat, he means "How did things go?", or "How did you make out?", etc. Hope this helps! And skull... no offense meant... this topic fascinates me!

Well, (scratching his head) I stood on the left side of the bike and then threw my right leg over the seat.

And lets not forget you can get on to get off but you should not get off and get on.

Ok yeah I definitely didn't understand the lingo... I didn't win the auction, it went for more than I could afford that week, but like I said in a previous post, I founda 79 xs400 for sale that I am going to look at this weekend. The guy says it runs and he only wants $375 for it. He sent me some pics and it looks to be in decent shape. We will see saturday...

Sorry, i forgot you guys in the US Don't know the sayings of the Queens English, I wounder if we become a republic the same thing will happen to us?????????????????? .........I never thought about it before........Leaving your left foot on the ground, slightly lean forwards and grab the handle bar,(or what ever you are endeavoring to through a leg over) taking your weight of the right leg slowly swinging the right leg backwards and up whilst bending at the knee, Once the raised leg clears the height of the object swing your leg over and down............You should now be where you intended to go before getting on.......Getting on - getting on your bike..........Getting on _ Getting on with your life.........Geez,
