Has anyone figured out how to remove the factory wheel studs that hold the sprocket on so you can put longer ones in ? Im trying to use an Rd400 18in mag on an 80 Xs650 and the sprocket needs to be spaced out about 3/8 of an inch but I need longer studs to do it. Ive already had a 4 bolt 36 tooth sprocket made to fit the Rd400 wheel. A source for longer ones would be nice too. Thanks

Didn't somebody make a conversion plate/thing to do this, maybe Omars?

from what i have been reading, most people use a spacer. four holes to bolt to hub six holes to bolt a 650 sprocket to the spacer.

I know aboout the spacer but I was trying to do it another way. The studs arent threaded in and you cant draw them out with nuts over them. They have splines that go into something incased in the rubber. I could see if I got them out Id never find longer ones like I wanted anyway. Im side tracked now on another project for a while

I am in the process of doing the same. I got my RD400C rear wheel yesterday. The idea of the spacer is to aline the rear sprocket with the front sprocket.

I'm not telling you what i'm going to do, you will be all over me about lowering compression, Laughing ............I have a 75 standard frame and am making up more of a road bike than a custom. I figure on putting mikes 5th gear with a 32-33 tooth and the 18in rear wheel will be a starting point.........I have even listened to what you have been saying .........with a few spare motors i have i am going to try out your decompression model, it is only a bit of time and as i have a couple of motors i will be taking apart i can use the old gaskets and chains, if stretched Shocked ................
