Does anyone know of another coil that will substitute for an 81 xs This bike
has a TCI unit which goes to a single coil with 2 leads.
I tried mikes & he is out of stock He referred me to speed & sport & they discontinued it. I'm sure there is another one with the same output which would just need to be mounted somehow. Any suggestions?

The harley-davidson coil OEM # 31609-80 or similar will work. You need around 2.5 ohm primary resistance, same as the the stock yamaha coil. Should be lots available and not expensive.

Thank you R.G I actually ordered a stock part from "CHEAP PARTS .com"
Although they weren't Cheap(they being C.P) but it is a YAMAHA part, toughest part was looking up thye Factory p/n, (had to register on the site & get to '81, most lists end at '87) but it's on the way. Thanks.
BTW I may have a TCI coming that I can forward to you, (if Bad) If not I'll try to get some Photos enlarged & attempt to outlin a schematic, The PC board is component reference designated in Jap. Characters, so its hard to read but most resistors follow color code, except for the stand ups. There is anIC chip that is a mystery but I'll try to get something out.
att D.

That's real good you got a coil lined up. Yes, I've been looking for a defective TCI unit.

BklynMatt, are you saying you couldn't look up the part number for your OEM coil on a a parts sellers site? You can download a parts fiche for your bike I think...if so go here: biker.net/

Look on the left for XS/TX 650 Manuals, then see if your model is listed. When you find your model look on the left for the section you are seeking. Its downloadable I think too. Then you can have your oem part numbers handy. For me thats how I check part numbers to make sure they will fit my bike when I am looking on ebay for parts.
