Bought backet case (1978 xs650 speical, completely stock ),, Stock carbs poured fuel out,, Floats were full of gas, (stock) Air filters ruined, broken and unrepairable, I figured 2-floats,2-carb rebuild kits,2-filters, 1-throttle cable and hope that carbs arn't worn out bad. OR just buy the vm34mm SFL xs650 carbs and just have to play with jetting at worst case. This bike will stay stock and get a Bratstyle.com look...What are your opnions???? Idea

Oh, I vastly prefer the VM34's--much better throttle response and SOOOO much easier to tune and work on. Jetting is pretty easy, too. Of course, it would be cheaper to keep what you've got and just clean up and rebuild them. I'd get rid of the stock air box, though, and throw on those vm34's with some K&N pod filters and be done with it. you can get them pre-jetted to your setup anyway.

No two motors flow the exact cubic feet of air regardless of being stock or modified, so it's totally impossible to get pre jetted carburetors to flow correctly out of the box for any engine application ,as you'll always be faced with the tedious task of tuning for proper fuel/air ratio. Go to pro boards under carburetor section and browse through till ya get to the thread regarding the jetting of the 34mms from SFL and what others have 34s jetted to. It's on page 7..............Jack

I got a set of 34`s from sfl, and after alot of trial & error they are getting close. The chances of throwin em on and being "right" are slim. Like Jack said, no 2 motors run quite the same. I learned alot from the sudco manual, its worth having. Good Luck.
