I'm disassembling my bike currently and I've gotten to the exhaust and notices a few things.

First, does the stock exhaust have a crossover pipe? The exhaust on my bike does.

Second, my headpipes and mufflers are all one piece, is that normally how it is?

I have nothing to compare to since this is the first Yamaha I've ever messed with Very Happy

Yes to the cross over. The one piece depends on the model?

Well the one piece sucks balls, lol.

I was wanting to take off the mufflers, wrap the exhaust and run them with baffles in a drag pip config......oh well....

probably the first.best thing to do with an XS is to junk the standard Yam exhaust system , it strangles the life out of the bike, sell it to someone who counts having a 100% stock XS as more important than performance .. Twisted Evil

xs1961 and anyone else what do you think about the head pipes and exhaust systems mikes xs sells? I have a special and aparently I would need standard headers to use replacement exhausts. I actualy like the idea and look of the ascot system 2into 2 on one side of the bike. any coments? Do the headers blue easily

Ive never tried Mikes but ANY aftermarket downpipes/headers of at least 1 1/2" diameter are better than the standard Yam ones which are double skinned so the actual internal diameter is too small for proper performance gas flow
