The mufflers on my $100 XS are OK....will clean up with a little polish and sounded good while we had the bike running.
The headers are rough...surface rust in spots, baked on oil, scratches all over.....
I know people disagree about header wrap, but I'm trying to do this bike on the cheap. I don't plan on all-weather riding with this bike, so I'll try to keep the wrap nice and dry!
I see 15, 30 and 50 ft. rolls. I may even know some racers with leftover tape.
Can anyone tell me about how much it takes to wrap two stock headers?

Some steel wool might clean those headers with a bit of elbow grease.....used brilo pads on my old 77 and was surprised considering what they looked like before..........

generally the manufacturer tells you how much each footage will wrap on differant diameter pipes. stock pipes od is I beleive 1 7/8 . and 30 inches long. The wrap comes in differant widths so a acurate amount I cannot give you. Wrap is cool it keeps the heat in the pipe and allows for better exhaust scavageing, plus it keeps riders and others from getting burned to the boot. Some dont like the looks but I think that it gives that completed performance look.

get the 50' in 2" wide, if you get the shorter and screw up(like I did) you won't have enough. Start at the loud end and wrap towards the motor, safety wire is the ticket for a tight clean finish.
