Hi Wally the needles are a bit of overkill the bronze bushing would have been fine but here's a link 650wiki.org/index.php/6._Chassis
tells you how to, good luck

Put a grease nipple in the neck and one on the swingarm while you have things apart.

yes just as easy to pull every thing off that way you don't have to juggle things have fun reconnecting the wires get the di-electric grease for the connections put the zerk above the steering lock slightly offset to make it easy to reach but not interfering with wiring or cables -- use a short thread lenght don't want to get into steering stem, yours should be a solid stem but if hollow plug bottom with a cork, this gives you a excuse to drink a bottle of wine - drink bottle of wine before checking to have cork handy just it case

I just did all this to my 75. I used the needle bearing set from Mikes XS. It is smooth as silk. Jayel's right, down the whole thing. You'll spend more time trying to avoid taking stuff apart than if you just do it. I goes faster than you think. I was a little worried about changing out the races on the frame to accommodate the needle bearings, but its not that big of a deal. If I remember correctly, the instructions were worded a bit strange. but it really was easy once I got the courage to bang out the old races. I used a dull chisel to knock out the old top and bottom race, then put the new ones back with a soft-brass hammer. But I really like the needle bearing vs. the ball type.

Hi All
I have now pulled as much down as possible to get the steering neck out & all the ball bearing just fell out.

But I find that the steering stop blok has been welded back on which has left a bit of a rough patch inside the neck near were the bottom roller bearing will sit any advise on this.

You may be able to make out the rough spoy at the top of neck pic this pick is taken from the bottom of the neck.

not a problem if the outer race covers it, yeah you learn to hang a plastic bag under the triple clamp after your second one (some of us are slow learners) crawling around on the floor trying to find those little balls (and how many were there anyway)
