Hi Folks,
I'm a new member am looking for advice about titles in Ohio. I have a mostly complete, but running '81 Special with no title. I can't contact the previous owner because of a privacy act and I can't get a salvage title because I can't show proof of ownership. What to do? I hate to just part it out, but maybe that's my best option? Use the proceeds to buy some thing titled?
thanks,
ike in Dayton

check your state DMV site for lost title/abandon vehicle section, find out who inspects retitled vehicles in your area ask them for help/what you need to do, it can be done

I was able to get a "bonded" title with just a copy of the check I used to buy the bike. If you have anything close to a bill of sale, this may be a good option.

Have you considered contacting someone who is parting one out? I know I have several titles and vin tags from vehicles I have scrapped (sorry no xs's). Anyway check into ebay or local forums for people parting out bikes and hit them up about the paperwork if they aren't sending it out with the frame

I ended up buying a "really Distressed" Honda FT500 Ascot for the frame VIN plate and title, just so I could plate my ATK/600Honda "special". It's got a few FT parts on it, ..er, yeah, thassit, sure...
There are Title businesses around Arizona that specialise in Abandoned/Bonded Titles. You might Google ALL-TITLE in Tucson and see if they work out of state?
Good Luck,
Chip

If other methods fail use a title service, I've used ITS Titles before. Broadway Title does the same service. Basically you "sell" your untitled bike to them, they title and/or register the bike in a no-show-title state then you buy it back for their fee. Your bike or car must be 15 years old or more, no problem here. When you get the title you can register the bike in your state.
