I ran across what I think is a pretty good page on this process to remove rust from a tank or other parts. I know we have written about it several time but as they say pictures are worth a thousand words.Maybe this will help someone. Possibly something for the vault?

This method is just about as damaging to thin metal as the muriatic acid method, and takes a lot longer and has a lot of possiblities for sparking and fun electrical burn outs.
Just dump a pint of muriatic acid in it, duct tape all holes first, then shake like crazy and dump it. An XS tank drains completely thanks to a petcock hole that is clean at the bottom on the tank. Then put new duct tape, put hot water and slosh it out. Then put baking soda and hot water and shake it out.
Dry it and maybe put a wee bit of acetone in it and then coat it with kreem.
POR 15 also is OK but the method is a bit different.
Instead of the muriatic acid you use their acid. Then water a few times, and dry it, then POR15 and here is the kicker. When you rain it, you'd get almost all the POR15 out except about 1.5-2 oz.

danno a battery charger is used. Several have done threads on their variation of the method. Links are in the vault.

Link charger to a battery then to your item
This way you get constant current
Done this with three tanks then used POR15 tank sealer

danno- I personally haven't done it. I have heard good things about it though. A respected member, Retired Gentleman , did a write up on his experience and it seemed to work well for him. It's in the vault. I put this up as additional info. I need pictures sometimes.

I have done it and arm&hammer laundry detergent workes real good. and isnt as toxic to dispose of when your finnished
