my title says 74 so i assumed i have the BS 38's with a seperate throttle cable for each carb. I ordered a bunch of parts (carb kits, dual throttle sleeve, throttle cables, pods) and found out the gaskets were not correct. I thing that is really throwing me off is that my choke gasket has 8 holes and the carb kit i ordered has 7. how can i identify exactly which year these carbs are as it looks like i have a bunch of brand new parts that are now useless?

So I think ive got it narrowed down to either 76-77 or 78-79 based on the 8 hole choke body gasket. there are 2 seperate throttle pulls (not linked), but thats not to say they were not linked at one point? anyone know how to identify if their the 76-77 model or the 78-79?
On another note I have a bunch of brand new 74-75 BS 38 fuel parts I dont need.
Dual Throttle Sleeve. Not sure if ill still need this since it appears my carbs have 2 seperate thrttle pulls but Mikes XS identifies this to be used with the 74-75 model carbs.
Right & Left Throttle Cable for 74-75 BS 38's
Carb Rebuild Kits for 74-75 BS 38's
PM if you have parts to trade for parts I need for my carbs (once identified)

...your engine nr will tell you what year it is - if it is different from your frame nr then its been swapped...knowing what year the engine and frames are doesnt mean that those are the original carbs...the aussie site page skull sent you to should help determining which carbs you have
carb evolution

does "throttle cable connectors are single ring and barrel style" imply that there is only one throttle cable?

All the photos ive searched for on the internet are telling me I have 74-75 just like the year of my bike. would the gasket design have been different/changed durring that time? Eveything that came with my kits fit except for the gaskets, and the 8 hole choke gasket is really throwing me off since the 74-75 had a 7 hole....
I wish they would have just put a model number on these things..

I suggest you stop and try to start from the beginning and reread all the information you have been given. You have the information to sift through so you are going to have to work through and work it out for your self.
The Aussie site gives you information about letters stamped under Bowls of a certain year and the shape and overflows of the bowls, types and variations of the length and size of of the needle jet and other variations described in that page.
Your carbs look to be the same as my BS38's off my 74 TXA with double throttle cables
As for the gasket well Mikes is not infallible and perhaps you will have to buy an 8 hole gasket to go with the other parts.

I agree... Im pretty sure their the BS38's that were equiped with the 74 TX650 Engine I own. Perhaps there is an error in the gasket. It would however be nice if MikeXS would respond to my emails after purchasing $180 worth of parts...
