Sourcing Tires

Hey guys,

Just worked out a spread sheet to keep a tap on parts cost. I realize that tracking costs on the project is a terrible idea but I have a small budget. Anyway tires is the last item on my needed list, I have $18.66 left to buy front and rear rubber. So the budget is going to have to stretch a little tiny bit. So to my question, do you guys just do Tire Rack or are there better sites to source rubber? Also I have spoons for installing bicycle tires will they work on these or should I leave mounting the tire to the pros.

I'm really not sure about this but I need to get some new tires for this spring also so I thought I'd push this post back out to the front page...

I generally shop ebay for the cheapest price for the tires I want. $18.66 won't get you much, maybe the tubes.

Well, if you shop wisely, you might get a set of tyre irons for your $18.
Pushbike stuff wont cut it. I've changed a lot of tyres, my set up is 2 m/cycle irons & 1 car type iron. The car iron works great when you need that extra bit, also having 3 irons is a bonus!

When removing a tyre, always mark the valve position on the tyre first, this is important for re-install, as it aids balance.

A new tyre gets fitted with the coloured dot at the valve. The coloured dot indicates the lightest part of the tyre, so the valve counteracts this.

Its a pain But i don't like taking it to the shop, so I do it my self.
My 1st set Chen Shin Marques where under $100 for both. Check the Net for sites J C Whitney?

I do the Dunlop Touring now for Mileage, the front was $120.

Just bought a set of Dunlop D401's for my Harley. A 100/90-19 front, a 150/80-16 rear. $229.45, free shipping. The dealer wanted $275 to put on the rear tire. I have the tools to mount my own tires, save big bucks.
