i have this old fiberglass gas tank a friend give me. i would love to put it on the 650 this winter. however, i recently read an article on ethanol in todays fuel. the article said that ethanol can slowy dissolve fiberglass resin, and could plug up carbs. at the time this tank was made i dont this ethanol was an issue.
does anyone have any experience with fibergalss gas tanks?
do you think i should not use it?

- If it's all we can get then I suspect we will have to live with it. The fibreglass tanks are apparently ok if they are made from vinylester resin which is supposed to be fuel safe.

- plastic, polyester resin, etc not so..what to do?????????????????

You gotta think, who would make a mold for a gas tank, go into production and then make a gas tank that wouldn't hold gas? I'm thinkin GM?

this tank has been around a while. i dont think ethanol was a issue then. pretty sure it was leaded fuel then.

Maybe lining it with Creme would relieve your concerns. Usually costs about $40 and protects steel without disolving. Sorry dpphoto, I posted before I checked previous responses and had to edit. I see you already have an opinion of creme. Seems there's no middle ground. People either like it or hate it. Amen on Franklins Tower. Can't think of a set that the 3 songs aren't played together. They are some of my favorite dead songs. Wish I could do them justice when play along but my skills are "about as sharp as a bowling ball"- F. Leghorn

POR-15 is supposed to be good too. Don't know about resistance to ethanol though.
