Just a question, I've hit a wall.

How on earth does the little block, attached to the splined shaft, that spreads the brake shoes actually come out of the drum? I've looked at an exploded view and it shows the little circular piece that's part of the adjustment system coming free, but it doesn't want to just pop off.

Help? Direction to pics would be good too!

I thought that the shaft & block were one piece.

They are. I'm just wondering how to remove that assembly from the hat so I can clean it out.

Also, how hard should it be to rotate that thing when there are no shoes and springs installed? I assume it would just spin in circles. Mines pretty tight and doesn't want to move without the assistance of tools.

It should push out with your thumb if nothing is attached. Try PB blaster or your facorite penetrating oil until the shaft rotates freely then it will practically fall out............BG

I'll head out and grab some PB blaster today. Soaking the hat in my parts washer didn't quite do the trick, but at least now all the grime is gone.

pb blaster did the trick. The Steel shaft had made a jacket of rust that jammed it in the aluminum hat.

Now to find the cam actuating arm.... The guy I bought the brake off of on ebay didn't include it....

Does anybody know where I can get the cam actuating arm for the drum brake? The one that goes on the splined shaft that's attached to the cam.

I haven't been able to find one. Is there a way to cobble one from parts? i looked at MCmaster and didn't find anything.
