While disassembling the clutch on my '81 I managed to break one of the screw seats on the clutch center/boss. (Part #341-16371-03). I picked up one from a '76 to replace it thinking it was the same part, but it turns out its not. (Part # 341-16371).

The one from the '76 doesn't have the whole inner plain plate/spring retaining clip assembly. Consequently, the splined section (part that holds the clutch plates) is nearly 5 mm thinner than the one I broke.

Anyone have any experience interchanging parts from different year's clutches? I'm hoping I can just use 1 less plain plate and 1 less friction plate like the earlier model clutches.

Check that, reverse it. I'm hoping I can just use I more of each plate. The older model boss is 5mm thicker. Problem is, I don't have any extra plates.
