Has anyone done the FZR caliper upgrade?
If so I'd like to see pics of your mounting adapters and any ideas for rotors.

I think I'm going to make the caliper bracket templates from MDF to work out any bugs then copy that in metal..

I just brought home a 1989 FZR 600 rotor and caliper, to install on a '78 front end...I am heading off to the metal supplier for some 3/8" aluminum plate. I need to make a spacer for the rotor, and caliper mount. I have the rotor mocked up with washers for spacers, and with it at the proper spacing, the caliper mount is going to be a no brainer. The fork mounting bosses and caliper mount holes line up nicely (in the same plane, that is) They even use the same bolts. I am slightly leery of spacing the rotor out beyond where it will be supported by the shoulder on the rim, but unless someone has other info, I am thinking that 6 mounting bolts, and a flat plate spacer should be more than strong enough. Opinions? Thanks, Kyle

If the spacer goes outside the lip on the wheel you could make one that steps in and has it's own lip for the rotor. It's a bit more work on the lathe but it should keep the rotor centered. It'll probably be fine without it..
I got my FZR master cilynder today.. nice piece but no mirror mount
No big deal.. I plan to run bar end mirrors..
I guess I've been overthinking the bracket.. A thicker spacer is much easier.

Well, I made some progress yesterday. I am having my local metal supply shop laser cut a spacer for me, for the rotor. 7/16" thick. I used AN (aircraft grade) washers to space the rotor out for mock up, as they are very precise, compared to the hardware store stuff. A 1/4" thick piece of 5000 series aluminum plate makes a nice caliper hanger. Possibly going to use 1 thin washer between mount plate and fork leg, to gain another 1/32 of wheel clearance. As is, I have 3/16 between the mag wheel spokes, and the caliper. I should have it finalized next week, and will post pictures as soon as I am done. Crankshaft will be here next week, so this girl may be on the road by Xmas! The setup time for the laser cut cost way more than the material, so I had them make me a couple of extras. If this works as well as it looks like it will, the extras will be for sale. $20, including shipping in the US. If I sell 3 of them, I can recover my cost. Isn't capitalism great? Thanks, Kyle

Nice.. well put me in line for one of those spacers..
We have a few more locals here on the board..
Killtrip and SRDesigner are both in Kennewick..
We'll all have to do an XS ride in the spring..
I was looking at the FZR dual piston rear brake today..
It looks like the stay will bolt up and the spacing is about right for the rotor.
All it should take for my XS-400 is thinning the bracket slightly.. the FZR had a 17mm axle.. for a xs-650 you would need to bore it out to 20mm

Cool, I'll keep you posted on how the spacers work out. I thought about changing the rear setup on mine as well, but the $ have nearly run out on this build. Sure wish we had a Bent Bike here on the east side of the mountains. I make a trip over to Lynnwood about once a month. That place is like a candy store. I have to make a list, get in, and get back out. Otherwise the creative squirrell that lives in my head, will drive me insane, and max out my credit card!

Do you already have a disk rear or would you be converting from drum?
How much for 2 spacers shipped to the same address?
I was going to do a dual disc setup since I have the calipers, MC and all.
Let me know if you would want to trade for a FZR rear caliper bracket and stay..
I might have a spare soon. We might be heading to Leavenworth before Christmas so I could meet up and save shipping costs.

I was looking on the SR500 forum and found an interesting bit of information..
Ducati uses the same 80mm 6 bolt circle for it's front brakes..
Big 320mm Brembo full floaters.. even the Monster 696 has em..

Offset is more like 6mm. Stock is right on 12mm. (That's measured to the inside face of the rotor. A measurement to the centerline of the rotor might be more meaningful.) I'd love to find one with the same offset. This will do for now, though. Looks like you've done a lot of research on this! I just ran over to Bent Bike and eyeballed up a decent match. Looks like if anyone can come up with a true bolt-on solution to this, you are the man to do it. Kyle

I think the offset is measured from the mounting face of the flange to the outside face of the rotor..
So if it was laying on the bench it would be from the surface to the top surface of the rotor.
There are a couple with big offsets that might be perfect bu I can't find what bike they fit..
Like the 08.YA31.32 with the 21mm offset what the heck does it fit?

Hmm an interesting setback on the rear brake swap..
As expected the FZR rear bracket will have to be narrowed from 27mm to 20
Machining will have to be done on both sides or the stock wheel spacer will have to be thinned. I'd rather mod the bracket since I want to be able to put the stock pieces back later on.
Axle Diameter was perfect.. FZR and the XS-400 both have a 17mm rear axle. If this was a 650 the it would have to be bored out to 20mm
Now what was not expected was the rotor..
The XS-400 rear rotor is LARGER than the FZR600..
XS400 and 650 have a 267m rear rotor..
FZR600 has a 214mm rear rotor..
The fix? Look to the FZR1000..It has a 267mm rear disk.
They should have the correct length caliber bracket.
Great for the 650 guys because the 89-up FZR1000 has a 20mm axle.
For my XS-400 I want the 87-88 model with the 17mm bracket.
2nd issue.. The stay.. the FZR bracket is a bit taller and mounts differently.
I have some ideas but I don't want to go crazy till I get a FZR1000 bracket.
Crazy option.. turn the rotor down in the lathe to 214mm

I know it's been a while since anybody posted anything regarding this but I'm pulling my hair out. I have an '81 XS400 and I'm just working on making it look cool It has drum brakes in the from and I want to convert, I bought front fork legs that will take a stock caliper, I also bought an XS650 1.85X19 front wheel because I wanted a disc ready wire wheel but because of the axle length it may not fit (any ideas?) I saw this thread and loved the look of the bigger calipers and 4 piston calipers and it reminded me of the front setup the wrenchmonkees were using so I fired off some emails to them but haven't gotten as many replies as I'd hoped. Any info and links you can provide would be awesome. Also willing to purchase any prefab adapters that may be already made.

If you turned the rotor down from the 267 to 214 would narrow the swept area. this would be ok ,but the pads might be too low and hit the center piece of the rotor.

I'm just looking to see if anyone knows where you can get the bracket pictured. I have the FZR front end on my xs650 already and looking to do a pair of Brembos on both sides for a street tracker build.

On the ones I was measuring, I laid the rotor on the bench with the center up, measured from the bench up to the top of the center.
