Hi Folks. I have an opportunity to purchase an XS650 but of course the VIN# has been painted over and the fellow lost any registration he may have had. I am still able to get the serial number off the motor. Is there any connection between the motor serial number and the VIN?

-if the motor is original to the frame it should have the same #
- from this # you can trace the year and model
- with a bill of sale that isnt out of state you should be able to do the dmv thing-they will check and want to see it themselves
- dont know if this differs state to state
- you should also be able to carefully scrape the paint from the frame # and get this too
- if in doubt ask at the dmv or check online
-any problems dont touch it or think about it as a parts bike for the right price

Thanks - That helps quite a bit. (I'm from Canada by the way - not sure what that will mean with our DMV).
