I was changing my rocker adjusters today with adjusters from a VW.
When trying to screw in one on the intack I lost my grip & it fell inside
couuld not see it, it had slid down the return oil line next to the valve spring.
OH s***

Lucky I unbolted the cam chain adjuster & pulled it out gently & the rocker adjuster was sitting on top of it.
Then I stood still holding the cam adjuster till a mate could get there to pick up the rocker adjuster as I did not want to move & loose it to the sump.

Thank f*** that was close

Classic!

I was doing a helicoil repair on that 10 mm head bolt at the rear of the head and dropped that bolt down into the crank. Classic rookie move.
World kinda went black and swimmy for about a half minute. Drained the oil and heard a 'clunk' as the bolt hit the bottom of the drain pan.
World seemed a bit brighter after that.

As that old story's punch line goes....."Even the great Caruso had to clear his throat once in a while". I love the lucky recovery ones and like to forget the others. Like the petcocks I dissolved with electrolysis while cleaning of a tank....I'm a chemist and I know about the electrolytic order of metals and still left them connected to the tank I was trying to de-rust.

Note to self....Aluminum is reduced long before Iron or Iron oxide.

Yeah, as we are getting older and believe we have done it all and know everything worth knowing, an OH S*** pops up and bites us.

I changed out my fork seals, only to realize I had put them in upside down..........duh...........is that dumb or what? Fork seals are not fun to change out!!

There's one I read (on another forum) about a famous guru.....#9, I believe, who split the camshaft chain on a CB 450 without tying a wire to a closed link on each end and lost the whole bunch to the bottom of his engine. Quite a saga of efforts to extract/recover then ensued. I don't want to tarnish the spotless reputation of a noted leader; but here's a clue or two: He rides a yellow 74 TX bagger and his politics are (like mine)....just a little left of center. Maybe he'll stop by and finish the story about how he eventually got it out? I don't think that I can do it justice. Best, Blue "Even the great Caruso indeed"

left of left center for me, socialist liberal.....
getting stuff out is easy you just turn the contraption up side down but you don't even have to do that with the 650's mamma yamma put a very nice trapdoor in the bottom unlike honda who seemed to have forgot stuff like that happens
one of the Honda sites has a monthly "Homer Award" pink doughnut for these DOH! moments whoever pulls off the best boneheaded mistake with out doing any real damage to themselves or the bike wins
