I just pulled the Head from an 81 x & dremmelled of the connecting link , as things turned out I lost it, Does anyone know where I can get a maste link. Or does anyone know the specs of the chain? It had "DID/219ft" stamped on both sides of the link, I will need to know the pitch , width & probably the height, or just a replacement #.
Thanks in advance
Matt Donoher
Ps, I guess I'll need a ring compressor (2), I haven't check Mikes as yet, but if not I would like to get a pair (of ring compressors that is)

Mike's has the master links.
You can just fit the pistons up into the jugs while working the rings in with your fingers. The bottom of the cylinders are beveled to make it easy.
Put the pistons into the jugs first with the pin clip installed on the inside.
Roll the engine up on the nose and block it up.
Slide the jugs onto the studs, until the pin holes line up with the rods, slide the pins into the piston, install the outer pin clips, slide the jugs all the way on.
Roll the engine back to verticle finish the assembly.
It's easier with the engine rolled up on end, you don't have to try to support the weight of the jugs while installing the pins.

Didn't drop that link in the crank, did you?
It's amazing what you can find attached to the magnets on the drain plugs. Ha!

Damned caps lock! Razz

Yeah, you don't really need the tool, just need to be peened!
There's a good thread here somewhere with a good how to & pics.........Anyone???

Of course it would have been easier to leave the chain intact!

To late though now I guess! Sad

Stop yelling, Ha!
You don't need to break the chain unless you're going to replace it. You can pull the cam bearings off one side and then work the cam out from under the chain. I tie a string to the chain just so's if it falls down into the crank I don't have to do much fishing..
