Anybody else running one?
I found that with the single petcock setup there's a good bit of fuel left in the right side of the tank when approaching empty.
I'm using an aftermarket dual output petcock from Old Bike Barn. Took the base off a stock vacuum petcock and put a simple lawn mower fuel shut off valve in one of the holes and J.B. welded it and the other hole. Then ran a fuel line to the unused input/output of the aftermarket petcock.
Reserve/reserve.

Rather than starting a new post on this, does anyone have a picture of the 2 side by side. I was thinking of doing the swap as well, building a scrambler and more range would be nice.

I just wanna see a side by side for size comparison or if someone could measure theres for me, L x W x H?

No photo, but I have a '79 Special with a '77 Standard tank with no issues whatsoever.

Ditto on using "Standard" model tanks on Specials. I've used several from 75,76 & 77 models on 78 & 79 Specials. Usually for reasons of extra capacity although I also prefer the standard tanks shape .
I also usually dump the vacuum valve part of the specials petcocks and convert them via the Wikipedia modification to manual operation with a shut-off while I'm at it. I've had too many problems depending on the aged vacuum valves to shut off fuel. As an aside, I always dump those
"roto-tiller" specials handlebars too. Best, Blue

ps.....here's the link to the 650wiki.org procedure for making the petcock
conversion from vacuum to manual. It'a a repeat......

An old retired firefighter friend of mine built a log splitter and put a lighter and a radio on it.

Jayel, that is exactly what I wanted Thanks !! Great pic to compare them. I almost like the standard tank better, nice shape to it.

Now to see if I can find someone who would trade their standard tank for my special. Anyone?

Hello I was wondering what the capacity difference was between the standard and the special tank?

My 75 b xsl bike in my gallery has a special tank. The 81 8 hour reserection has a standard tank on it. Dont like the single petcock tanks but they do interchange. I was told that the earley 70's pre 441 tanks will not interchange, can anyone verify that? Will a 73 tank fit a 75? Also will a 70 / 71 rear fender and brackets fit a 75?
