I've got my coil all set up and ready for the pamco but the rotor is not fitting over the dowel pin on the rod.

My bike is a 71 XS1B

Any reasons for this?

I believe the hole for the dowel goes completely through the rod. The dowel may be protruding too much for the Pamco rotor. Try tapping the dowel inward slightly.

The hole does go completly through, but it has a ridge to stop the pin from going all the way and to keep the pin from disapearing in the hole.

The ridge is not equal distant from each hole, so move the pin to the hole on the other side which might be deeper. No concern about being 180 deg. out because it doesn't matter on a wasted spark system.

1. Clean out the groove in the rotor with a file...sometimes there are metal particles there from the broaching process.
2. Try filing the pin a little shorter.
3. Try the pin from the other side, it may be shorter.
4. Clean out the hole in the rod with a drill bit, may be some dirt in there.
5. Tap the pin in.
6. Remove the rod and try twisting the rotor on the rod with the pin removed. It may not be the pin that is preventing the rotor from going on.
7. Replace the pin and put the rotor on the rod before you reinstall the rod.

If all else fails, PM your address and I'll send you another rotor.
