I was also thinking about going to that type of filter. They have them on mikesxs.com for about $65. The only possible issue I see is that if you aren't running a forward control setup, or if you have big feet, it may interfere with ability to brake

It looks like that side cover has been ported/tapped/bunged for an oil air cooler as well.

I, for one, would hate to see the size of those feet, esp. on a 650.That person would give the term 'bigfoot' a whole new meaning! I am running the filter/cooler from Mike's, and am very happy with it. Filter's are available locally for $3. Smile

Yeah.I'm kinda considering Mike's setup.I like the idea of the cooler, cheap filters, and it bolts right up.The setup I pictured just caught my eye is all. Thanks for the fast replies.Ride/build safe.

Just a thought... be careful of what filter you put in Mikes oil filter/cooler. I got a honda filter from my local dealer and it wasn't EXACTLY the same. It had a lip which impeded oil flow. I had to grind it down before I used it.

1ironhead,
Here is a link for the technical info on that spin on.

Unless your have the equpment and know how, I think 3M's pricing is VERY reasonable. Take that drawing to your local machine shop for a price quote. Even if the machinist is a "hard core loves to see any bike run" type person the price is likely to be 3X's what 650 Central gets.

Is anyone running this side mount spin on? If so do you think you have reduced oil temps with it? Seems to me the thinner wall metal of the filter would help dissipate heat?
