What is a reasonable price for an early XS? Say a complete '72, runs, 12k miles, faded paint with some scratches and dents. Midwest.

The more I find out about 650s the more I realize they can vary wildly in price.. I dunno $1500 maybe?

True. Usually when I look at a bike I might be serious about I make a list on a notepad.Questions I want to ask. Good title? The various systems and parts on the bike. Examine each system. Electrical harness hacked up? Chain and sprockets condition? Tires? Rust in the tank? Has any work been done? History, mileage , all that stuff. Basically, how much am I going to spend and would it be cheaper (less labor too) to buy one already done? Write down the information on a piece of paper and take some pictures of the various problems areas to reference later for clarity. Total up what you think it needs. That being said without any other info than you give I might start at $12-1500 and go up if you want it bad enough. Remember an older model is worth more but also harder to source parts for. Do a search on ebay for XSs for completed listings to see what a similar year model/condition has sold for. In the end any one of them is only worth what a certain person is willing to pay on a certain day. And I'm cheap. Wink Does any of my B.S. make sense? I hope so.

Ship it over here & youd get £2000 for it... God knows why , the early ones are not much cop apart from their rarity value..

I think the $1500 area, give or take as pumps said. The early ones like yours to me are definately cooler than most!

24000k's and sold for $9600.00 AUS on ebay, some of these have been imported from the US and on sold for a good profit. .....now that you in the US have given your bikes some sort of value it is harder to make a couple of dollars......Thats still around $8g's in US $

He had an XS1B he sold at the same time with about the same mileage, sold it for $6500.00 and it lasted for a week on the local club site before it was sold

I had a new XS1 and they were one scary ride. The hinge in the middle wasnt an old wives tale. My 78 std is a much better bike all around.

I think we have to take in the collectability aspest. If I had that bike it definately would not be a daily rider, though I do like to ride all my bikes. Frame, forks, they're fine for the average ride and as for rarity and hard to find parts, that's why it would not be a daily rider!

I see your point oldbikenut, if I had spare money maybe Id collect rarities like that but Im definitely not wealthy so every bike I own needs to earn its keep( ie. transporting me from A to B safely on narrow bumpy roads around here , which my old xs1 couldnt )

A '71 Hemi Cuda convertable recently sold at the Jackson Barrett auction for 1.2 million bucks. Would I like to own a Hemi Cuda? Sure. Do I want one that bad? Hell no. But personally I would put out the right money for an early XS, just for the classic aspect of it. Then if I wanted to carve up the road it would be easy enough to build a later model for that purpose.

There was an real nice XS2 about 100 miles from here listed on Craigs List last year for $1500. I didn't get there fast enough. Crying or Very sad

And I did see your point as well, I was just giving another perspective. I really enjoy riding my 71 RT1, but parts are so hard to find and costly at that, so I limit how much I ride it but it's truly a joy to have around even with its imperfections. And by the way I'm not wealthy either, I would sure have alot more bikes and a huge shop to put them in if I was!
