Ok guys... I pulled the carbs apart yesterday to clean all the gunk out of them and came across something very interesting... When I pulled the piston/diaphragms off i realized that they were 2 completely different types... Is this normal? Im pretty sure it isn't but just thought I'd ask.

Interesting way to overcome the diferences between the 2 cylinders!
Will be interesting to know all about this one!
Please let us know, or post some pics would be better, once you work out what you've got and what side it's on! Carb & main & pilot jet sizes would be great. Also how did it run before?

Also pics or discription of your spark plugs would be good!

Carb identitfier here might help:

Well the bike is a 79 xs400. It hadn't ran in a year or so I was told from the guy who sold it to me. I put some fresh gas and a good battery in it sunday and it started up on the 4th kick with the choke on. It was running like crap and I couldn't take the choke off or it would die. The carbs were all gummed up. I will take some pics tonight and post them up.

OK Here are some pics sorry they are blurry but my camera wouldn't focus down the inside of the piston.

This is one. It has the needle and seat on top of it.

This is the other one. From what I can tell,it has a spring around the needle under the needle clip, then the seat which has a stem coming off the top of the seat, and a circle clip to hold it all in place. That is what i think is in this one. I don't know because I haven't been able to get the circle clip out yet.

This is all that came out of the first one.
