I recently took off my right header pipe because of the carbon accumulating around the flange near the head. I noticed that there were 3 drilled holes near the flange that came from the factory. It looks like the flange slid into the header and was tac welded into the header from the factory. If I blow air from the other side of the pipe while blocking the top, air comes out those 3 holes. This is where the carbon is coming from. I just want to mig weld the holes shut but I was told they may have been there for a reason for some kind of vent? Has anyone had to deal with this and what are those holes for?

To let moisture out from between the outer and inner pipes i think.....Maybe you could find where the exhaust is getting into the liner and fix it there...either end most likely.....

i was told the holes in the outer down pipe were to help cooling and stop the nice chrome from turning blue with the heat Question
