Both are brass screen filters and reusable if in good condition.
You might consider the epoxy fix (sump filter) while you have it out. If it isn't torn it is a matter of time.

Yes you should be able to disengage the clutch without the motor running.
If you can't the clutch plates are probably frozen together. Not uncommon for these bikes when left parked extended periods. ...

Excessive slack or a popped chain. Get the replacement from Mikes along with a seal and bushing. Tips for replacement in the vault or on Mikes site under Tech Tips.

I've used the left side. Looks wasn't an issue so no real "care" preventions. I suppose the left side could be removed for paints sake.
Maybe a blanket over the blocks?

I ran a a case guard through an industrail wheelabrator 3 times and it didn't get all the chrome off. The chrome was harder than I thought. Steel shot medium and 200 psi.

The motor is not isolated from the frame. It bolts directly to the frame at the motormounts so is grounded(self earthed) and doesn't really need a jump strap to make the ground.

Srinath have you looked at the angle of the boot? It may not allow things to line up.
As far as failing or not don't we need to remember it isn't the boots(material) that has changed it's the fuel.
