Ya I counted the teeth (17) but that doesnt mean the PO didnt change the gearing once in its lifetime. Considering its a one piece rod vs two , to me that would mean someone did some mods.

Could be an oversized sprocket was used (looks like it) and the PO bent the rod out of the way. I say bent because there are no gash marks on it. Also, the originals were 2 pieces not one. The sprocke ...

6307? The Mikes part is listed as B6306 C3 arent all 6306's all 72 mm?

I thought the major difference with the special version is the thicker outer race, the locating pin hole and the snap ring?

Not sure of the OD/ID of this bearing, I will be rebuilding my engine in the winter so I will find out. I hope the one thats in there now is useable as Yamaha has screwed us with discontinuing the OEM ...

I thought the hub slotted into the fork leg to remain in place. Found this pick of an older XS but not sure if it will help.

Just read a quick blip about a Honda (I think the VFR for 2010) where they added more material to the crankshaft... to smooth it out. Much like your earlier theory of doing the same. ...

If I had to guess, I would go with Jap engine frame. The bottom cradle looks like its from the original bike. Dry sump could be CB750, SR500 or some other old skool ride.
